Elite ACL Rehab Package


Our ‘Plinth to Performance’ ACL Rehab Package delivers exceptional standards from week 1 post-op, and continues throughout your successful return to sport. Unlike traditional, sub-standard methods, we don’t stop at “almost better”, we aim for “better than ever”, and we know how to get you there!

The 5-phase program takes the guesswork out of rehab, with specific goal setting and research derived progression criteria at each stage. Powered by VALD, we accurately measure and develop the key components of recovery and performance, including: Motor Control, Movement Control, Balance, Static Force Production, Functional Strength, Jumping & Landing, Plyometrics, Running Mechanics and Ballistic Power.

By phase 4 and 5 we’ll be working on high level performance thresholds and sport specific principles. Here we’ll accompany you on the field, court, mat, ice or track, to facilitate a smooth transition back into competition.

Phase 1

Phase Priorities

What Will This Look Like?

At the end of this phase you’ll have full range of movement, good muscle activity, and normal walking pattern with equal weightbearing. Functional tasks like getting up from a chair will feel normal, pain will subside and swelling will resolve. You’ll be ready to start the next stage!

Phase 2

Phase Priorities
  • Single and multi-joint strength: Focus on maximal strength
  • Reactive strength development
  • Regain normal movement control – advanced
  • Running mechanics
Treatment & Training
  • Resistance Training, isolation and compound
  • Hypertrophy & max strength emphasis
  • Movement optimisation/biomechanics rehab
  • Progressive plyometrics
  • Landing/deceleration training
  • Running drills
Tests & Measures
  • Peak Force Measures: Quads, Hamstrings, Glutes, Groin
  • Force Decks Jump Tests: ballistic and reactive strength
  • Run Specific Isometric Strength Testing
  • NordBord: Eccentric Hamstrings – Strength & Capacity (time scale for this depends on graft type) 

What Will This Look Like?

At the end of this stage you will be running, jumping and back in the gym. You will have refined the more advanced movement patterns and mechanics, and will have suitable strength around the knee, ankle and hip to begin developing explosive force. Next step we’re on the field!

Phase 3

Phase Priorities
  • Single and Multi-Joint strength: Develop Explosive Strength
  • Optimise landing / deceleration / reactive strength
  • Develop multi-directional movement
Treatment & Training
  • Resistance Training: Transition to rapid force development
  • Ballistics and plyometrics development
  • Emphasis on explosive force and power
  • Run drills: change of direction, acceleration/deceleration
Tests & Measures
  • Dynamometry Peak Force: Quads
  • Force Frame: Peak Force hamstring, groin, glutes
  • NordBord Eccentric Hamstring strength
  • Force Decks Jumps Tests: single and double leg ballistic and reactive force.

What Will This Look Like?

You’ll be training regularly in the gym and feeling stronger across all movement types. Your jump performance will be improving, and we’ll see improvement in your explosive force measurements. Here you’ll also transition to field sessions, where you’ll be completing sport specific run drills and conditioning. Next you’ll be back in training!

Phase 4

Phase Priorities
  • Sport Specific Capacity / Individual needs
  • Address and minimise global injury risk factors
  • Bridge the gap from rehab to competition
Treatment & Training
  • Resistance training: Max strength and explosive training
  • High level ballistic/elastic training with emphasis on Rate of Force Development
  • Advanced training methods for power development
  • Speed and Agility training
  • High speed running and maximal sprinting
Tests & Measures
  • Run Specific Iso Strength tests
  • Force Frame Strength tests: Knee, Hip, Groin
  • Max lift testing: Squat, Deadlift, Leg press
  • Nord Bord Eccentric Hamstring capacity
  • Force Decks: Ballistic and Reactive Jump Tests
  • Time gate Agility & Speed Tests

What Will This Look Like?

You’ll be feeling great and performing well! This is the point when you’ll return to sport specific training with your team, coach, or individually. You’ll be sprinting and developing maximal agility capacity, whilst maintaining strength and developing explosive power in the gym. One phase to go!

Phase 5

  • Return to competition
  • Minimise future Injury risk factors
  • Continue developing maximal strength and explosive power
Treatment & Training
  • Resistance training: Max strength and explosive
  • High level ballistic training with emphasis on Rate of Force Development
  • Advanced training methods for power development
  • Speed and Agility training
  • High speed running and maximal sprinting
  • Increased exposure to high volume and intensity, cardiovascular conditioning
Tests & Measures
  • Run Specific Iso Strength tests
  • Force Frame Strength tests: Knee, Hip, Groin
  • NordBord Eccentric Hamstrings
  • Time gate Agility and Speed tests
  • Ballistic and reactive jump tests
  • Max Lift Test: Squat, Deadlift, Leg Press

What Will This Look Like?

You’ll be feeling great and performing better than ever! Here we continue working on high level performance thresholds across strength, power, elasticity and agility. It’s no longer left versus right, but you versus athletic optimal. You’ll be ready to return to full competition with confidence and without limitation! A successful return to sport, built on optimal movement and high level performance.
